Clearing the Air on Climate Change

A National Speaking Tour on the Environmental Impacts of a Rapidly Expanding Athabasca Tar Sands

SolarBCIn early June 2006, the BC Sustainable Energy Association sponsored Elizabeth May to give two public presentations in Vancouver and Victoria.

May is an Officer of the Order of Canada and has served for 16 years as the executive director of the Sierra Club of Canada. She stepped down from this post to pursue the leadership of the Green Party of Canada. She has been closely involved in international negotiations on climate change and ongoing discussions of the Kyoto Protocol since the 1980s when she served in the Conservative government of Brian Mulroney.

The speech given by Elizabeth in Vancouver on June 5, 2006, is available for download from the Radio Ecoshock web page (below).

The speech is broken up into two parts, each about half an hour. This makes for easier downloads, faster web delivery, and better radio play. The first part deals with Canada's vision and failure on climate policy; the second "From Crud to Crude" is about the Tar Sands.

Both are available at: www.ecoshock.org/DNclimate.html

Ecoshock expresses its thanks to Elizabeth May and to the BC Sustainable Energy Association for making the speech possible and allowing them to record it.
