Petitions

Please download, print, circulate and return this petition according to the attached instructions.

That communities and ecosystems around the world are suffering from global climate change, and are experiencing warmer temperatures, more extreme weather patterns, and rising sea levels, and

That the world's climate scientists are agreed that the impacts of climate change will become catastrophic unless we reduce our greenhouse gas emissions immediately, and

That the Kyoto Protocol is the only credible global treaty that is committed to fighting climate change, and there are many policies, initiatives and investments that can reduce Canadafs greenhouse gas emissions, and

That it is not fitting for the Government of Canada to cut and run in the face of a crucial global challenge.

Therefore, your petitioners call upon Parliament

  • to honour our legal commitment to the Kyoto Treaty, and
  • to further pledge to reduce Canada's greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below the 1990 level by 2020, and to 80% by 2050, as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the State of California have done, and
  • to institute a revenue-neutral carbon tax to increase prices of fossil fuels, and
  • to enforce increasing fuel efficiency standards on all motor vehicles.
