 1. How would you describe your organization’s work?

Hydrogen In Motion (H2M) develops next-generation hydrogen storage materials that make hydrogen practical, affordable, and scalable across the clean-energy economy. Our patented nanomaterial adsorbent enables hydrogen to be stored at low pressure, low temperature, and high density — unlocking safe, lightweight, and cost-effective storage solutions for mobility, industry, and remote communities. We bridge deep science with real-world deployment to accelerate the transition to a hydrogen-powered future.

2. How did the group originate?

H2M began with a simple but ambitious question: What if hydrogen could be stored safely and efficiently enough to become a mainstream energy carrier? Our founders brought together expertise in materials science, engineering, finance, and public-sector leadership to tackle one of the biggest bottlenecks in the hydrogen value chain. The company was built on the belief that innovation in storage could unlock the full potential of hydrogen as a clean, abundant, and versatile energy source.

3. What has changed along the way?

The global hydrogen landscape has shifted dramatically. What started as a research-driven venture has evolved into a commercialization-ready company working with partners across transportation, heavy industry, and government. We’ve expanded our team, validated our technology through third-party testing, and deepened our role in shaping codes, standards, and policy frameworks. The urgency of climate action has accelerated demand for practical hydrogen solutions — and H2M has grown to meet that moment.

4. What makes H2M unique?

One of our proudest achievements is our participation in the NATO DIANA program, where H2M is developing a hydrogen-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using our low-pressure, high-density storage technology. This project demonstrates how advanced hydrogen materials can unlock long-duration, high-performance flight without relying on heavy, high-pressure cylinders. It’s a powerful validation of our technology in a demanding, real-world application where safety, endurance, and efficiency are critical.

Working within the DIANA framework has accelerated our engineering, strengthened our partnerships, and expanded our understanding of how hydrogen storage can transform aerospace and defense applications in dual use military and civilian applications. The insights gained — from system integration to operational requirements — now inform our broader roadmap for mobility, remote operations, and off-grid energy solutions.

5. Can you describe a project you are particularly proud of?  How did that project inform future work?

6. How do relationships with community affect your approach?

Community relationships are foundational to how H2M designs, tests, and deploys technology. We believe the energy transition must be built with communities, not simply delivered to them. Our work with the Indigenous Innovation Ecosystem (IIE) is a powerful example of this. Through these partnerships, we co-develop solutions that support energy sovereignty, local capacity building, and long-term economic resilience.

One of the most exciting areas emerging from this collaboration is peer-to-peer power generation and energy swapping using H2M’s modular hydrogen storage tanks. By enabling communities to generate, store, and share clean energy on their own terms, we help create decentralized systems that are more resilient, more equitable, and better aligned with local priorities. These relationships continually shape our technology roadmap, reminding us that innovation is most impactful when it strengthens community autonomy and supports shared prosperity.

7. What does sustainable energy mean to your organization?

Sustainable energy means systems that are clean, resilient, equitable, and economically viable. Hydrogen plays a critical role in decarbonizing sectors that cannot easily electrify — heavy transport, industrial heat, and long-duration storage. For H2M, sustainability also means designing technologies that minimize environmental impact across their lifecycle and ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition are shared broadly across society.

8. When you look at British Columbia’s energy landscape, what do you see going well and what needs improvement?

British Columbia has strong climate ambition, abundant renewable electricity, and a growing recognition of hydrogen’s role in decarbonizing hard-to-electrify sectors. The policy direction is encouraging, and the province has the talent and natural resources to lead.

Where we see a significant gap is in the execution layer — particularly around permitting, infrastructure deployment, and support for SMEs driving hydrogen innovation. The permitting process for hydrogen projects remains slow, fragmented, and inconsistent across jurisdictions. This creates uncertainty for innovators and delays the very technologies needed to meet provincial climate targets.

Hydrogen SMEs — including those developing breakthrough storage, production, and mobility solutions — often face structural barriers that larger incumbents can navigate more easily. These smaller companies are producing some of the most transformative innovations in the sector, yet they lack streamlined pathways for demonstration, deployment, and scale-up. Accelerating hydrogen adoption in BC requires clearer permitting frameworks, dedicated support for early-stage innovators, and a stronger bridge between policy ambition and on-the-ground implementation.

9. What is our most significant opportunity here in British Columbia?

BC can become a global hub for hydrogen technology, production, and export. With our renewable resources, skilled workforce with expertise in hydrogen, and strategic Pacific location, we are uniquely positioned to lead in clean-fuel innovation. The opportunity is not just economic — it’s environmental and social. By building a hydrogen economy rooted in sustainability and community partnership, BC can model what a just and prosperous energy transition looks like.

10.  What does being a member of the BCSEA mean to you?

Being part of the BCSEA connects us to a community of leaders committed to advancing sustainable energy across the province. It gives us a platform to share knowledge, collaborate on policy, and amplify the role of hydrogen in BC’s clean-energy future. Membership reflects our belief that the transition requires collective action — and that together, we can accelerate meaningful change.
