The Victoria Chapter is partnering with the University of Victoria’s Institute for Integrated Energy Systems to develop a hybrid wind-solar-battery charging station for electric bikes.
The first stage of this project is a 1-day Hackathon Design Challenge for Students at the University of Victoria and Camosun College which will take place on March 7, 2026. Students will work in groups to develop a preliminary design. Once their time is up, our judges will choose the top 3 teams, who will be invited to develop their idea into a real project and work alongside us at the BCSEA Victoria Chapter.
We want to make this a hugely successful event at the university, with your help.
Those organizations who help us sponsor and promote this event will gain extensive exposure at the University of Victoria, as well as positive promotion from the various media sources we are bringing in to cover the event.
We are currently looking for support in the following ways:
-
Sponsorship for this Hackathon which may include money or in-kind donations, for example, prizes for the winning teams.
-
Advertisement: Help us promote our event such as online or on a poster up in your business.
This hackathon is the first of many to come. It offers meaningful visibility and a clear way to support students and sustainable energy in our community.
This sustainable e-bike charging station will demonstrate an integrated off-grid wind, solar, and energy storage system. If the prototype is successful, we plan to expand these stations across the city. As Victoria continues to grow as one of Canada’s most bike-accessible cities, this project supports riders while advancing sustainable energy development.
