A Message from our Board Member, Stephen Hargreaves

Stephen Hargreaves, Board Director

As we move forward into the spring season, there is a lot to report and a lot to be excited about. We have begun reconnecting with volunteers and the public, planning upcoming events, and developing a renewed vision for our organization.

On April 16th, our passionate volunteers, along with members of our Board of Directors, participated in the Chilliwack Rotary Climate Fair. Tom Hackney, who is one half of our Policy Corner team, delivered a well-received presentation on BC’s energy situation, what can be improved, and how the BCSEA works towards a clean energy future. A copy of Tom’s presentation can be reviewed here.

Our team continues to highlight opportunities for in-person and virtual events across the province. We maintain an up-to-date schedule of events hosted by us and other organizations, which you can explore here

We recently announced the fifth annual instalment of our popular WiSE (Women in Sustainable Energy) networking event, scheduled for June 8th in Vancouver. Early-bird tickets are available until May 15th and can be purchased here. We are seeking corporate sponsorship and volunteers to support; if you or someone you know is interested, please email WISE@bcsea.org for more information.

We take inspiration from each conversation our members have with sustainability advocates across the province. And we strive to include these learnings as we develop as an organization. At this year’s upcoming strategic review, scheduled for late May, our Board of Directors will review the feedback we’ve received and set a course for our next chapter. If you have ideas about where you’d like to see us go, please send us a message.

Lastly, we would like to reflect on the upcoming Earth Day, April 22nd.

This year’s theme for Earth Day is Invest in Our Planet. A continuation of last year’s campaign, “the theme is focused on engaging governments, institutions, businesses, and the more than 1 billion citizens who participate annually in Earth Day to do their part – everyone accounted for, everyone accountable.”

Earth Day is a critical moment for us all to reflect on our impact on the planet and commit to taking action to protect it. As members of the BCSEA, we are committed to promoting sustainable energy policies and practices that will help us achieve this goal. We encourage all our members to participate in Earth Day events and to continue advocating for sustainable energy in their communities.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to a sustainable energy future.

Sincerely,

Stephen Hargreaves
