Eric Smiley has over 30 years of experience designing and installing renewable energy systems. He is a member of Viridian Energy Co-operative, an electrical contracting company and workers’ co-op based on Vancouver Island that installs renewable energy systems, where he works as the Design Manager.

His background includes running his own engineering firm on Vancouver Island, working as a project manager in applied research at BCIT and instructing as a professor at Vancouver Island University. Mr. Smiley is a member of the Section 64 Sub-committee of the Canadian Electrical Code and regularly delivers workshops and training to electricians, technologists and engineers on the topics of design, installation and operation of renewable energy systems.

Mr. Smiley served as Chair Photovoltaic Education Committee from 2005 to 2008 and on the Board of Directors and Treasurer from  2002 – 2004 at Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA), as well as serving on the Board of Directors and Chairing the Exam Committee  from  2003 to 2005 at the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).
