Message from our board member - Jared girman
This month, as we gear up to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, we are certainly living in interesting times. With global norms being tossed aside, we must look at the opportunities that are mixed in with the challenges. The current tariff climate, while posing challenges to global trade, presents a unique opportunity for British Columbia to solidify its position as a leader in sustainable energy and renewable fuel production. By strategically leveraging our abundant natural resources and technological expertise, we can mitigate external economic pressures and foster a resilient, locally driven energy sector.
British Columbia possesses immense potential for biomass energy, hydroelectric power, and emerging renewable fuel technologies like hydrogen and advanced biofuels. Investing in these sectors will not only diversify our energy portfolio but also create sustainable jobs and stimulate economic growth across the province. Furthermore, locally produced renewable fuels can reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels, bolstering energy security and minimizing environmental impact.
These times also highlight the importance of BCSEA’s role to advocate for policies that incentivize investment in these sectors, streamline regulatory processes, and support research and development. By fostering a supportive ecosystem for sustainable energy production, British Columbia can capitalize on the current global shift towards clean energy, attracting investment and establishing itself as a global hub for renewable energy innovation. This proactive approach will ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for our province.
If you want to get involved and help work towards a sustainable energy future for BC please check out and register for our Energy Connection or WiSE events coming up in the fall and also keep an eye out for BCSEA hosted webinars happening soon!
Sincerely,
Jared Girman, Board Member, BCSEA
