Spring is in full swing for us in British Columbia, but as we start to enjoy warmer weather, mother nature is reminding us of it’s immense power. The fires in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta are harming people, communities and the environment. You can support those affected by the fires by donating to the Canadian Red Cross. Each dollar donated will be matched by the Federal government, and both Saskatchewan and Manitoba provincial governments.

These fires remind us as well that climate change is a present threat. It plays a critical role in the extreme weather we live through and bear witness to. BCSEA continues to advocate for sustainable solutions. Canada is united in strengthening our sovereignty through interprovincial trade, energy coordinators, and large project investment. This work is energy intensive, and renewable energy and cleaner energy will help us move through these tumultuous times.

Educational programs like BCSEA’s Cool It Climate Leadership Program will be integral to informing people about actions they can take personally and in their communities. BCSEA will continue to advocate for a cleaner world through its work at the B.C. Utility Commission, attend events, and hosting events such as Women in Sustainable Energy (WiSE) and Energy Connections this October.

Finally, we cannot do this work without the volunteers at the Provincial Board and through our four chapters, Vancouver, Prince George, Okanagan, and Victoria. Thank you to our volunteers for your support this year, and we look forward to the busy fall ahead!
