A Message from our Board Member - Tracy Tilscher
Given the start of a new year, I wanted to wax philosophical about my aspirations and journey with BCSEA.
As in the growing body of mathematical learning over the centuries, many countries, cultures and persons have contributed to advancing this body of knowledge. From the Museum of Alexandria which included notables such as Euclid ,“the father of mathematics”, and Archimedes, to The Platonic Academy of Athens founded by Plato in the 4th century BCE. And the list goes on. These people and groups worked together to debate and collaborate with this shared goal.
Though not experts in all fields of sustainable energy, my hope is that organizations such as BCSEA help provide the framework to support these centers of growing knowledge in this same fashion. The dedicated group at BCSEA, largely volunteers, is working hard to inform the public, create opportunities to exchange ideas, work with regulatory bodies to encourage adoption, and via the Cool-It Program, educate youth who could one day be the scientists and policy makers of the future.
But our future success will be based on the contribution of many different people in many different roles. My journey started not as someone working in the sustainable energy industry but being asked to assist the organization to repair the backend systems that support the running of the organization; systems that manage our website, payment processing and communications.
If you also believe in a sustainable future, think about what talents you can bring to the table. I would encourage you to find an organization that aligns with your beliefs, whether it is BCSEA or another, and consider supporting it either through volunteering, membership or financially.
