BCSEA-IESVic Hackathon Design Challenge for
e-bike charging station
The BCSEA Victoria Chapter is partnering with the University of Victoria’s Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic) to stage a 1-day Hackathon Design Challenge to design an off-grid solar/wind/battery e-bike charging station.
The Hackathon is open to all UVic and Camosun College students and will take place at the University of Victoria on Saturday, 7 March from 10:00 to 6:00.
Students will work in teams to develop a preliminary design, which will integrate renewable energy sources and energy storage with e-bike charging stations.
The teams with the three best designs as ranked by our judges will be invited to develop their designs into buildable plans. We hope this will go well enough to lead to a further project to actually build the winning design. And a successful prototype could even be duplicated at other sites around greater Victoria.
We are looking forward to an exciting event. The hackathon organizing team has tested the concept with members of the UVic student body and received an enthusiastic response.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses, organizations or individuals. We are seeking money or in-kind donations, for example, prizes for the winning teams.
The Victoria Chapter hopes this will be the first of many hackathons that it will help to organize. It offers meaningful visibility and a clear way to support students and sustainable energy in our community.
As Victoria continues to grow as one of Canada’s most bike-accessible cities, this project supports riders while advancing sustainable energy development.
