Over the years the Kamloops Chapter has developed a strong working relationship with key staff at the City of Kamloops Sustainability Services department, so when considering a new project to support the implementation of climate actions outlined in the Community Climate Action Plan it was obvious to explore a collaboration with the City’s Sustainability Services team.
Since space and water heating for buildings accounts for 29% of Kamloops’ greenhouse gas emissions, our Community Climate Action Plan identifies electrification of that sector as a priority. However, we know that there are some real challenges and barriers to the uptake of green home heating in Kamloops, specifically heat pump installations. . We plan to launch a project that will identify and help reduce those barriers, with the goal of facilitating the increased use of home air source heat pumps by the residents of Kamloops. Our team is excited about the many possible avenues ― stay tuned for more details!
