Message from our Board Member - Louis-Benôit Desroches

Happy New Year!

Despite the colder temperatures and long nights of January comes the energy of a new year with new opportunities. 2023 promises to be an exciting year. More and more events are being scheduled, including the First Nations Energy Summit, a tour of the Alexandra District energy utility plant, and the 2023 Climate Caucus Summit to name a few upcoming examples (further information can be found here). The CleanBC program will also continue to drive much needed change toward a sustainable energy future in BC.

The new year is also a good time to reflect on the last 12 months. Despite the continued challenges posed by the pandemic, 2022 saw the successful launch of the Switch It Up BC campaign, continued interventions in BC Utilities Commission proceedings (see the Policy Corner for more information), and the continued expansion of the Cool-It education program. The pandemic has put some financial strain on BCSEA, as discussed during our November Annual General Meeting, but with continued dedication from our volunteers and staff, along with your support, we are ready to tackle 2023.

Be on the lookout for more events and webinars in the upcoming months. If you have an exciting idea on how to get involved, contact us at info@bcsea.org. If you are a sustainable energy expert who would like to share your knowledge or career experience with high school students, please connect with us through cool-it@bcsea.org

Wishing everyone all the best in 2023!
