Carbon & Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessments

Course details
This introductory course is for architects, home designers and builders, energy advisors & energy modellers, engineers, policymakers, and other professionals who will influence or perform whole-building Life Cycle Assessments (LCA’s). Minimal prior knowledge is required other than a basic understanding of buildings, material quantities in buildings, and construction materials. The course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to properly and effectively use LCA in designing buildings. Proper modelling and reporting of a building are critical in making important design or policy decisions to achieve the desired environmental performance. Key topics include life cycle thinking life cycle assessment, relevant ISO and EN standards, and the whole-building LCA process in construction. This is a pre-requisite course for XZEB 1165, 1166, and 1169. Delivery Format: This course is intended to be offered fully online with tutorials with the instructor. The online learning model includes self-guided learning materials and activities in the BCIT Learning Hub.
