Jim Jacobsen is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and a founder of Energy Economics.

Jim has dedicated his career to advancing sustainable economic development and clean energy solutions. His journey began in 1980 when he took part in one of Canada’s first Earth Day walks (while a student at the University of Victoria) —a defining moment that sparked a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship. Since entering the solar industry in 2015, Jim has played a pivotal role in driving growth and strengthening Energy Economics’ reputation as a trusted leader in renewable energy. His expertise spans strategy, communications, and community engagement, helping bridge the gap between innovative solar solutions and the people they serve.

An active voice in British Columbia’s clean energy movement, Jim has led education initiatives, spoken at conferences and academic institutions, and organized community events to broaden public understanding of solar energy. His leadership extends beyond Energy Economics through past roles such as Director of the BC Sustainable Energy Association and contributor to the Kootenay 100% Sustainability Plan. Today, Jim manages communications and stakeholder engagement for large-scale solar projects across the province. With a blend of vision, experience, and advocacy, he continues to inspire others and advance Energy Economics’ mission to build a more sustainable future.
